Team news for final game of the season

October 22, 2014October 22, 2014
AthloneTownHaving secured their Premier Division status for next season following last weeks draw against Dundalk at The Carlisle Grounds, Bray Wanderers want to end their season on a high with victory over Athlone Town in their final game of their 2014 season on Friday night at Athlone Town Stadium. For the first time in a number of weeks Bray Boss Alan Mathews doesn't have any suspensions to worry about. Striker Ismahil Akinade, who missed Brays last three outings following his sending off against Drogheda Utd is once again available for selection as is defender Adam Mitchell who also had to sit out last weeks encounter against Dundalk. The Manager is also in the happy position of having no injury worries ahead of the game. Speaking to www.braywanderers.ie Alan Mathews said he was very pleased with his sides performance last week, he said "I was disappointed we didn't manage to get all three points last Friday night, it was a great team performance from the lads against a side that have designs on winning the Title". He added "We will look to replicate that performance in Athlone on Friday night and finish the season on a high". ********* Bray played Athlone Town in the League for the first time since 2004 when they faced them in Athlone in the final game of the first series of matches this season. The game ended in a 0-0 draw with Bray goalkeeper Stephen Mc Guinness saving a late penalty to earn his side a point. ********* that draw earned Athlone their first point of the season in Keith Longs first game in charge. ******** the second meeting of the season was at the Carlisle Grounds in August and Bray scored in injury time to earn a 1-1 draw. Michael Barker scoring the all important goal. ******* when Bray joined the League in 1985 it took them nine games over eleven years to record their first victory over the midlanders. ******* in their last five games Athlone Town have won one, drawn two and lost two while Bray drawn three and lost two. ******* As this is the final team news of the season from me, I want to say thank you to you the members of the Press for your help and cooperation during what has been a difficult season for our Club, but we have achieved our aim of retaining our place in the S.S.E. Airtricity League Premier Division. We can all now look forward and plan for our eleventh successive season in the top flight Vincent Kirwan

Bray Wanderers 1-1 Dundalk

October 18, 2014
Dave Scully in an aerial battle with Andy BoyleWanderers secured the point they needed to achieve Premier League status for the 11 season in a row when holding high flying Dundalk to a 1-1 draw. The game was played in woeful weather but this didn't dampen the home supporters spirits when David Cassidy gave them the lead after only 30 seconds,  They maintained this lead to the interval and it wasn't until the 64th minute that Dundalk scored the equaliser though a brilliant strike from leading scorer Pat Hoban.
